"Collectives and Collaborations" Panel
Sat, 06/22/2013 - 2:00pm
Sat, 06/22/2013 - 4:00pm
A public conversation at Avenue 50 Studio moderated by Sandra Mueller and organized by the SCWCA Eco-Art Collective titled "Collectives and Collaborations" is set for Sat. 6/22/13 from 2-4 pm. Panelists are Beth Elliott and Heather Hoggan from the Arroyo Arts Collective and Ann Isolde and MaryLinda Moss from the SCWCA Eco-Art Collective.
This panel runs in conjunction with the Deborah Thomas "Remembrance" exhibition at Avenue 50 Studio. The exhibition features the large, lush abstract paintings from Thomas' days as a New York studio artist hanging alongside more recent installations, writings and collaborative projects where she often delved into photographs and text on themes of family, found memory, landscape and the environment.
The exhibition was organized by the SCWCA Eco-Art Collective as a community project at the invitation of Avenue 50 Studio's director, Kathy Gallegos. Thomas frequently exhibited her work and curated shows there, often as a member of the Arroyo Arts Collective. She was also a long-time member of the SCWCA Eco-Art collective and curator of the group's Wilderness Mind: Dissolving Duality exhibition at Angels Gate Cultural Center in 2012.
Members are invited to bring a small remembrance in image or word (no larger than 5" x 5") to the gallery. Deborah Thomas passed away on December 2012. A memorial service will be held on Sat. 6/29/13 at All Saints Church in Pasadena at 2 pm.
