"BUILDING BRIDGES/TEARING DOWN WALLS: A Search for Equity in Southern California Arts Institutions"

The Equity in the Arts Report includes research and information on the representation of women and artists of color in Southern Californian nonprofit visual arts institutions. Over ten years in the making, the study includes questionnaire responses on equity policies and practices from thirty-three art museums and selected community galleries. Exhibition histories and staff profiles are analyzed in relation to the stated goals of the institutions.

The report also includes an historical context chapter with quotes from local visual artists, arts activists, and art historians from primary racial and ethnic groups describing their struggle for inclusion in the Southern California art world.
