JOIN US FOR AN EXCITING SUMMER ART ADVENTURE where SCWCA members and friends can connect around art viewing. CHERYL BOOKOUT, Executive Director of the SCA Project Gallery, will be facilitating a “walking and talking tour” to the Claremont Art Museum and five contemporary venues in the Pomona area. This will allow attendees to network and share responses while checking out this flourishing art scene together.

FIRST STOP AT 1:30 PM will be the relatively new Claremont Art Museum, where we’ll view VEXING: Female Voices from East LA Punk. The Latina women in this show have served as a role model for subsequent generations interested in alternative social movements as a platform of expression.

WE’LL ARRIVE IN POMONA AROUND 2:30 PM. After parking, we’ll walk to the American Museum of Ceramic Art for the Pueblo Clay: America’s First Pottery exhibition. Next we’ll visit 57 Underground Gallery to see the Destruction exhibition featuring animal skull sculpture by Barbara McLaughlin and contemporary paintings by Jeanne Anderson. Then we’ll take a mid-afternoon coffee break before heading to the dA Center for Miripolsky and Miripolsky (a son who creates public works and a father who does calligraphy). By 5:00 PM we’ll arrive at the Latino Museum of Art to view Angels (Nicaraguan artists) and The City of Angels (Los Angeles artists). For those who choose to stay beyond 6:00 PM, there will be a no-host dinner at a local restaurant before attending the closing reception of the My Space exhibition juried by Suvan Geer for the SCA Project Gallery.

CHERYL BOOKOUT has been involved in the arts as a studio artist and arts activist since 1987, developing techniques in installation art and mixed media painting. In 2001-04 she worked closely with Judy Chicago and Donald Woodman to create Envisioning the Future. Additionally, she was the curatorial consultant for Multiple Vantage Points: Southern California Women Artists, 1980-2006, sponsored by the Southern California Women’s Caucus for Art and the Southern California Council of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. In 2007 Cheryl’s life and art career was video documented as part of the California Women Artist Project to be archived at USC and Rutgers University.
