Artist Statement

My work is a reflection of my observations on contemporary life expressed through a process-driven approach to painting. I make paintings, drawings and mixed media artworks that explore the division between the realm of memory and experience within the ‘public space’ and more specifically on spaces where the surrounding environment reveals the previously unnoticed: the non-private space or space that is generally considered uninteresting.

My works are often about contact with the less noticeable elements of architecture as well as intersecting natural elements. Energy, space and landscape are examined in less obvious ways and sometimes developed incongruously. I use the process of active observation, passive remembering and active reconstruction to allow for a non-linear, intuitive development of my work. My paintings don’t always reference recognizable form. Yet, the results are deconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted and interpretation becomes multifaceted.
