Artist Statement

I am an intuitive painter driven by internal monologues. The process of making art allows me to glimpse into the limitless nature of objects and inspires me to participate creatively in the larger world. Recent projects focus on symbols, dream states and mythological themes.

My work consists of abstract forms superimposed over colorful glazed layers of acrylic paint, watercolor and collage. For example, the “Anemoi” series features sprays of pigment across blinding white or single-hued canvas or paper spaces. I manipulate the paint with breath or bursts of compressed air, then enhance the images that coalesce amid the swirls.

These half-glimpsed gestures speak to the unconscious as a whispered message open to each viewer’s interpretation. In the “Dynamics” series, ambiguous figures have crept into the pieces, which involve an exploration of the complexity of interpersonal relationships.  Currently, I am developing a visual and musical memoir around finding my paternal family and also working on a series of adult coloring books.
